Supermarkets don't know why they run out of stock? My arse they don't.

Article in The Age today stated that Coles and IGA are having trouble keeping their shelves stocked with basic goods.

I shop at Coles and my in my personal experience, when my favourite brand is not there, there is invariably a "You'll love Coles" substitute close by. I have seen this occur often enough to wonder whether it is a deliberate attempt to pressure customers into trying their brand. The practice was particularly rampant when Coles was facing the take over by Wesfarmers.

I think they should fess up.

Staggering. If a supermarket doesn't have an effective stock control system, how do they even stay in business? Especially when it is a matter of knowing your most popular products and keeping your best customers happy.

I wonder if the banks suffer the same problem. "Sorry, but we don't quite know how much money we have."
